Homeownership in United Kingdom

Homeownership in the United Kingdom is a very important factor that motivates its people to work harder everyday despite the fact that the economy is in bad shape. However, not all properties being sold on the United Kingdom market are anywhere near affordable not to mention the fact that many people are having it hard financially. Just imagine thousands of people having lost half of their salaries due to companies cutting expenses. At the worse, letting people go just to manage their financial stability and an even graver truth, declaration of absolute bankruptcy. Though these may be the case, and with the government doing necessary cutbacks in the public sector and integrating a portion of it to the private sector at the most, it still is supporting its people for house ownership.

As quoted by Housing Minister Grant Shapps as part of his speech upon his appointment as Minister of State and Housing Planning, he does not agree with his predecessors that home ownership should be reduced, and on the contrary, it should be encouraged and the government should actively play that role. Furthermore, he added that it is important that deficit should be managed so that complete trust and confidence can be established between both borrowers and lenders at the same time. It is also noted back then that financial responsibility should be encouraged as well to borrowers and supported by lending institutions especially those who are credit-worthy.

However, he mentioned that government funds as of now are not sufficient enough to help people to provide affordable quick sale houses projects or rent-to-buy options. He also is supportive of the idea of more house-building and local housing trusts. At the same time, he also added that the government is still doing its best to find other alternatives to help its constituents afford their dream homes such as rent rate reductions and or like a social homebuyer which allows tenants to purchase the house upfront. He also made it a point that the current government will no longer follow the steps of its predecessors and instead will create hope for aspiring home-owners.

Overall, options may not be as much and the economy does not appear to be stabilising not to mention the confirmation that the government will not be distributing its financial power to any particular sector due to the risk at hand can be disheartening. But on the brighter side, the government is bent in supporting its people with their objective of purchasing properties and Grant Shapps will be one of those who will see that the task is done right.
